Helping to provide basic needs, our community closet offers clients of Employment & Human Services Department new and gently-used clothing at no cost to them.
Our Ready-to-Work Program provides professional interview clothing for our clients seeking employment. We also provide casual clothing for our foster youth; warm clothing, coats, and sleeping bags for our homeless clients; and diapers, layettes for infants & toddlers.
Do you have a bed or other usable household goods you would like to see put to good use? If so, the Contra Costa Interfaith Coalition collects and distributes (through VESTIA and many other charities) these items to families in need locally. Many of these families have been homeless and possess nothing. Please contact them at (925) 933-7040 if you have items to donate. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation, and the knowledge that you have helped someone in need. Items needed include:
Beds (twins, full, and queen – sorry NO king beds)
Pots, pans and household items, and working small appliances
Furniture – dressers, chairs, small sofas and dining sets
*Professional interview clothing
The Ready-To-Work Clothes Closet Program goals are to enhance the confidence and job readiness of Calworks Clients by assisting them in choosing appropriate attire for interviews and providing each client with one or more outfits appropriate for their emergency or scheduled interview. Clients may utilize the clothing closet by receiving referrals from their Employment and Human Services Worker.

*One Warm Coat
A warm coat is a must-have living in the Bay Area. No matter what time of the year it is – as the weather is unpredictable day to day. We collect warm coats during the cold winter months of November – February and give them out to our low-income families and foster children. Our most vulnerable clients are the children and our homeless population. We accept any NEW or gently used coats, jackets, sweatshirts and rain gear. Any items donated must be clean and ready to wear.
If you are interested in having a coat drive for us, please contact us at 925-521-5064.
Homeless residents in Contra Costa County are in need of comfortable and clean sleeping bags. Although the weather is currently warm, the nights can become cool.
